Fashion all-star Jenna Lyons is catching heat on social media for her choice of outfit for the former fashion executive’s first-ever “Real Housewives of New York” reunion, with one critic snarking it’s “Not an American Eagle jeans campaign.”
Lyons, 55, chose a pair of jeans with a totally sheer top, tie and blazer, riffing on a combination she’s worn plenty of times on and off the show.
The newly engaged star is known for her fashion prowess after working at J. Crew for 26 years – however, fans watching at home didn’t approve of her more casual denim ‘fit for the much-anticipated Bravo episode, which typically sees Housewives in all manner of sparkles, feathers and ballgowns.
One viewer tweeted, “I don’t want to ever see anyone on this platform (myself included) write anything bad about Gizelle’s outfits or any of the ladies of Potomac,” before continuing, “Jenna Lyons’ reunion look is horrible” and advising the fashionable Bravolebrity, “Any other pair of pants would’ve been better.”
The amateur fashion critic continued, “Jenna knows how to be talked about and that’s why she wore that denim pants. She could’ve worn any other pair of pants like she done other times.”
Another Bravo viewer agreed, “jenna is supposed to be a fashion queen but isn’t bringing anywhere near that at the reunion,” to which a defender replied, “fashion is self expression as well as over the top pretty dresses lol.”
Another “RHONY” fan added, “I think tuxedo pants or cropped tuxedo pants would have looked amazing. Not a fan of the jeans either,” in response to a tweet proclaiming, “Jeans at a reunion is a no-no in MY BOOK. Idc if Anna Wintour herself required you to wear them.”

However, there were also tons of supports of the signature Lyons look, calling the decision to dress down “iconic,” with one writing, “Jenna Lyons is fashion. She was a trailblazer in fashion. This isn’t a ‘traditional housewives reunion’ look but trailblazers don’t follow the rules. THEY MAKE THEM!”
They added, “Jenna said it herself she’s done “being someone for someone else.” Put some respect on Jenna F*cking Lyons’ name!”
For their part, Lyons’ co-stars Brynn Whitfield, Sai De Silva, Jessel Taank, Erin Lichy and Ubah Hassan, went for chic and sleek gowns.
Lyons herself hit back at the haters with an Instagram Story; The reality star shared a video on Instagram in denim pants, a sheer blouse and a black blazer, and explained she’s happy with the outfit, writing, “The reunion – yes I wore jeans and I am not sorry.”
Lyons proved that sticking up for sartorial choices will always be stylish.
