Prince Harry and Meghan Markle extended their European getaway for a romantic stop in Portugal after wrapping up the Invictus Games, according to a report.
The Duke and Duchess of Sussex are believed to have indulged in a three-night stay on the Iberian Peninsula which reportedly also saw them pay a visit to a royal relative.
The exiled royals, who touched down in Düsseldorf for the Games on September 9, jetted off to Portugal’s capital city of Lisbon after wrapping up in Germany on September 16.
They then traveled an hour south to the CostaTerra Golf and Ocean Club resort, located in the coastal town of Melides, in the Alentejo region, in a “mega-secret” operation, according to local outlet Nova Gente.
The outlet reports that the pair, who are now back on Meghan’s home soil in California, stayed with Prince Harry’s cousin, Princess Eugenie, and her husband, Jack Brooksbank in Portugal.
Eugenie and Jack have been splitting their time between London and the CostaTerra Golf and Ocean Club in Melides after Jack secured a marketing and sales role at the resort last year.
Meghan, 42, and Harry, 39, preferred not to publicize the “romantic getaway either through the press or through their social networks,” a source told the outlet.
“They arrived in Portugal without their children and as soon as they landed, they headed to Alentejo and more precisely to Melides.”
“The choice of this location would have been related to a possible invitation from Harry’s cousin, Princess Eugenie who, since the start of last year, has been spending a lot of time in this part of the Alentejo because of her husband’s work,” the insider added.
Meghan and Harry have kept in close contact with Princess Eugenie, 33, since shutting the door on royal life in 2020.
Eugenie and Jack visited the Sussexes at their home in Montecito, as shown in their six-part Netflix documentary, “Harry & Meghan.”
In the clip, Eugenie is seen playing on an undisclosed beach with Archie.
The Sussexes reportedly left Portugal on September 20, when they flew back to Los Angeles through London.
“Accompanied by two bodyguards, they were the last to board BA flight 501 at 11 a.m. bound for London Heathrow Airport,” a source told the outlet.
